Maxwell Amenity Ltd was formed as the umbrella company when the two companies ALS and Pitchcare merged in 2009. The brands remain today. ALS was formed in January 1988 by some of the Maxwell current Directors who had many years’ previous experience in amenity and agricultural agronomy.

ALS is a specialist amenity/horticulture supply company with high levels of professionalism and service for the sports turf and amenity planting & landscaping industries.

Pitchcare was incorporated in 2001 and the owners make up the rest of the Maxwell Board of Directors. Pitchcare was conceived by a Professional Groundsman to provide a FREE and independent website to pass on information in an educative way. Pitchcare enrolled some of the top Groundsmen and Greenkeepers in the country to pass on their intellectual wealth of sports turf knowledge.

The information that we publish is designed to help everybody involved in grass care. We provide a complete and unique service so that members of the site can see and understand working operations, and also be able to purchase products, equipment and machinery from our online shop and through our industry partners at discount prices.

Pitchcare raises the awareness and profile of our industry by showing and providing practical solutions. Pitchcare involves many professionals, both practitioners and contractors in the provision of information, expertise and project completion.

Over the years both ALS and Pitchcare have undertaken many renovation, construction and special projects. With our Industry partners we are able to offer a full service Offering a complete package, from concept design, written specifications, construction, grow in and ongoing maintenance to the supply of products and machinery. The Maxwell Amenity Ltd promise is that everybody enjoys the very best surfaces and highest level of customer care.

We have the internal expertise for golf maintenance management. Employing Ray Hunt (34 years golf course management experience including links, new construction and six European Tour events)., Richard Shepperd, (12 years in Golf Management including Course Manager at The Hertfordshire GC) Alex McCombie (22 years as a Green keeper including Course Manager at lledreborg GC in Denmark) and Tim Jenkins, amongst others. All of whom have worked in golf as Course Managers to the highest levels.

We also employ the consultancy services of Dave Whittaker MG, who has nearly 36 years in golf, 13 years of which as Course Manager at The Wisley GC in Surrey.

Nigel Wyatt

From the age of 16 Nigel has been involved in the construction industry working his way from labourer to Contacts Director on behalf of his previous employer, a career which to date spans 35 years.

During his time at his previous company, Nigel played an integral role in introducing the company to the Sportsturf market by securing their first golf project with Dave Thomas Limited for Bowood Park Golf Club back in 1988. Since then Nigel has been involved in some of the most interesting and prestigious projects to date including the construction of the Ryder Cup Twenty Ten Course, pitch renovations at Hackney Marshes, London, rainwater harvesting and reservoir construction at Burnham Beeches Golf Club, Berkshire.

Passionate about the industry Nigel continues to support associations and education giving his time freely in order to pass on his knowledge and experiences. In 2004 he became the Chairman of the Land Drainage Contractors Association, a position he held consecutively until 2010..

Ian Martin – Construction Manager

From 1968 Ian has gained his knowledge and experience from the ever challenging University of Life!

1973 Abbey Hill Golf Club was the start of Ian’s golf and sportsground construction career. Having been involved in over fifty projects to date, over a career of 44 years, your developments couldn’t be more in safe and experienced hands.

Ian’s immense knowledge, practical experience, dedication and work ethic are second to none. He has a caring and down to earth approach which is invaluable not only to our clients but to rest of the team whom Ian manages and most importantly nurtures.
